Smithsonian Sunday: A Super Bowl Special

DC's Smithsonian museums (there are 17 of them here in the city) are among America's most treasured and visited places. But the Smithsonian also publishes a series of some of the most interesting, fact-filled blogs appearing anywhere on the internet. Each Sunday, The Prices Do DC re-posts an entry that initially appeared in one of those highly-readable blogs. Hope you enjoy and maybe we'll see you soon at the Smithsonian.

Today is the Super Bowl. Here are 3 Smithsonian stories related in some way to the big game.

The Super Bowl that might have been.
1) People were worried about weather conditions in the 1st Super Bowl to be played in cold weather country. But the New Jersey temperatures were balmy for this time of year. Here, however, what impacts cold weather could have had is explored in an article titled "The Science of the First Cold Super Bowl."

2) Just in time for the biggest dip day of the year, Kraft Foods has announced that there soon may be
a shortage of Velveeta on America's grocery store shelves. Here's the history of the impending Cheesepocalypse.

3) Whether it's the Super Bowl or some other occasion, you really should be making your own salsa. Here's why and how you do it.
